The Press Institute broadens the reach and impact of our work through our companion programs, global partnerships, and global business initiative.
By actively working with local partners where we operate Global Training Sites and Independent News Desks, The Press Institute builds trust, gains more credible sources and news tips, and enables thousands of women and youth to participate in empowering programs. Participants benefit through increased access to information and greater participation in community dialogue on key development issues.
The Press Institute offers community development companion programs in every Global Training Site it operates around the globe. Our current Companion Programs in Kathmandu and Nairobi focus on adult literacy and computer skills.
The Press Institute recently launched our Global Business Development Initiative. Beginning in the Spring of 2010, The Press Institute will begin creating revenue-generating initiatives in the communities where we operate Global Training Sites. These businesses will support our core mission to educate and empower people, while also generating revenue for local programs.
We believe this model of social entrepreneurship will enable The Press Institute to continue to thrive and grow, even in the midst of a tumultuous global economic environment. By limiting reliance on grants, individual and corporate giving, the addition of a Global Business Development Office will enable The Press Institute to provide more quality journalism training programs, continue to publish exceptional content, operate stronger community development programs and fulfill our mission by allowing people everywhere to live freer, fuller lives with greater access to information.

Whether leveraging the Internet to provide online journalism training to women spread out across the globe or taking our curriculum to remote communities, our global partnerships allow The Press Institute to reach more people in more places strategically.
Currently, The Press Institute is the training partner for Kick It Up!, the inaugural project of Global Girl Media to train girls from Soweto, South Africa to cover the World Cup in 2010. Along with the Empowerment Institute and The Op-Ed Project, we recently wrapped up the pilot year of Voices of Future, a program of World Pulse that trained 30 women from 21 countries in citizen journalism, web 2.0 and empowerment methodology.
Whether you represent an NGO, school or are an individual interested in developing a Press Institute Global Training Site in your community, we are eager to work with you. Our goal is to provide strong, ethical journalism training to people throughout the world in order to strengthen community, raise awareness about crucial societal issues, increase and encourage literacy, and provide empowering, gainful employment to individuals who choose journalism as a path to uplift themselves and their communities.
