Community Programs

Companion Programs

Our companion programs foster community development and increase participation in the news-making process.

Global Press Institute creates companion programs, such as adult literacy and computer skills classes, in the communities where we operate regional news desks.

Partnerships are at the heart of our companion programs. Global Press Institute works with local organizations to offer a range of services and educational opportunities right in our News Desk offices, including adult literacy and computer skills courses as well as wellness programs.

Experience has taught us that actively working with local partners helps Global Press Institute build trust, gain more credible sources and news tips, and enables thousands of men, women and youth to participate in empowering programs. Participants in these programs benefit through increased access to information and greater involvement in community dialogue about key development issues.

To date, our companion programs in Nepal, Kenya and Mexico have served more than 500 individuals.
