India News Desk

The India News Desk features locations in Kashmir, Varanasi and New Delhi. India, which gained its independence in 1947, boasts the world's second largest population behind China and one of its fastest growing economies. But despite India's growth, it struggles against high rates of poverty, corruption, illiteracy and noncommunicable diseases. The 2010 violence against youths in Kashmir and reports of torture showed that human rights is still a major issue in India.

The three reporters that staff the India News Desks tackle issues such as children's rights, human rights, and cultural and environmental preservation.
