Kenya News Desk

Kenya News Desk

The Kenya News Desk was established in 2008 in Nairobi, Kenya's capital. Located in eastern Africa, Kenya gained its independence in 1963 and adopted a new constitution in 2010. Yet nearly half of Kenya's population lives below the poverty line, public health is an uphill battle, and the country is still being haunted by massive ethnic violence after its 2007 presidential election.

With 12 reporters, the Kenya News Desk is one of GPI's largest. The reporters cover issues ranging from communicable diseases like HIV/AIDS and malaria and noncommunicable diseases such as cancer; to ethnic violence; population displacement; corruption; alcohol and drug abuse; sanitation; and public transportation safety. Kenya's reporters also report on Somalia from Nairobi.
