The Somalia News Desk is currently being operated remotely from Kenya, as 20 years of war in Somalia make it unsafe for reporters. Kenya borders Somalia, which is located in the Horn of Africa, bordering the Indian Ocean. Since warlords ousted the president in 1991, more than 30,000 people have died, more than 600,000 refugees have fled the country and more than 1.4 million have been displaced within the country.
