The Press Institute is an international nonprofit organization founded on the belief that journalism is a dynamic tool that fosters personal empowerment, community development and global awareness.
The Press Institute delivers our original journalism training and subject-based reporting seminars to women and girls throughout the developing world. Our programs advance personal empowerment, foster community development, and promote global awareness. In addition, The Press Institute recognizes limited leadership and training opportunities available to media professionals. Our Specialty Reporting Curricula (see topics below) are available to individual news professionals, news outlets, and editorial boards.
Press Institute curricula are available for partnership or purchase. We have a proven program model that delivers fast, effective editorial and reporting training in conjunction with community media development. In the coming months we will also offer an online training module that will be available for purchase.

Global Training Sites represent a holistic approach to educating the whole person. GTS harmoniously merge journalism training and employment of women and men in strong, ethical journalism, dissemination of original content via complementary News Desks, and promotion of community development through partner programs and opportunities, such as adult literacy, typing, and computer skills.
Our newest site in Nairobi, Kenya will launch in Winter 2010. We are taking our holistic approach one step further by launching our first social enterprise in Nairobi, Kenya — a full-service Women’s Media Center that will foster women’s empowerment by providing women affordable access to ICTs, while also generating earned income for the training site.
Whether you represent an I-NGO, school or are an individual interested in developing a Press Institute Global Training Site in your community, we are eager to work with you. Our goal is to provide strong, ethical journalism training to people throughout the world in order to strengthen community, raise awareness about crucial societal issues, increase and encourage literacy, and provide empowering, gainful employment to individuals who choose journalism as a path to uplift themselves and their communities.
The Press Institute offers community development companion programs in every Global Training Site it operates around the globe. Our current Companion Program Openings are in Kathmandu and Nairobi.
The Press Institute recently launched our Social Entrepreneurship and Global Business Development initiative. Beginning in the Spring of 2010, The Press Institute will begin creating revenue-generating initiatives in the communities where we operate Global Training Sites. These businesses will support our core mission to educate and empower people, while also generating revenue for local programs.
We believe this model of social entrepreneurship will enable The Press Institute to continue to thrive and grow, even in the midst of a tumultuous global economic environment. By limiting reliance on grants, individual and corporate giving, the addition of a Global Business Development Office will enable The Press Institute to provide more quality journalism training programs, continue to publish exceptional content, operate stronger community development programs and fulfill our mission by allowing people everywhere to live freer, fuller lives with greater access to information.
