The Press Institute produces award-winning journalism to increase access to information through media and enable people everywhere to live freer, fuller lives. On this page you will be introduced to our innovative programs—Global Training Sites, Independent News Desks, and Specialty Reporting Curricula.
Global Training Sites represent a holistic approach to educating the whole person. Our Global Training sites harmoniously merge journalism training and employment of women and men in strong, ethical journalism, dissemination of original content via complementary News Desks, and promotion of community development through companion programs and opportunities, such as adult literacy, computer skills and community health seminars.
Our training site in Nepal opened in March of 2007. Our newest site in will launch in early 2010. We are taking our holistic approach one step further by launching our first social enterprise in Nairobi, Kenya — a full-service Women’s Media Center that will foster women’s empowerment by providing women affordable access to ICTs, while also providing long-term sustainability for the training site.
