The world’s women are underrepresented in every sector of local and international media. Reporting Gender Justice is designed to shed light on the domestic and international issue of women's rights that has been swept under the rug.
At Global Press Institute, reporting and supporting gender justice does not mean radical feminism. It means telling equitable stories about a segment of the world’s population that receives a shockingly small amount of coverage.
Maternal mortality rates are on the rise in both developed and developing countries. New Delhi and New York are among the world’s sex-trafficking capitals. AIDS transmission rates among women rise each year. Literacy. Property ownership. Reproductive rights. All of these issues are underreported in today’s media.
Traditionally, these stories are over-politicized and therefore alienate a majority of the intended readership. This popular seminar reimagines gender-based storytelling in a balanced way with an emphasis on solutions-based coverage. This course will teach reporters from around the globe how to tell accessible stories that balance politics, tradition and culture.
