Reporting AIDS-related stories is a constant balancing act between cultural taboos and modern science. Anonymous sources and unreliable data from most of the world makes strong reporting on this issue a challenge.

Reporting HIV/AIDS was Global Press Institute’s first global specialty reporting seminar. Three years after the course was originally funded by The Open Society Institute, more than 75 women in developing countries have taken this advanced  reporter training and, as a result, have greatly improved their ability to cover AIDS in their communities.

Around the world, AIDS is a socially, politically and medically complex disease. Strong news coverage of the disease has dwindled in recent years. Global Press Institute has created an in-depth reporting seminar that will help reporters in every country of the world tell stories that balance local taboos and the most current science in order to report internationally accurate stories that have global humanity and global relevance.

This seminar addresses the complex ethical issues that arise when covering AIDS and addresses the financial and political components of the disease that are often misrepresented.
