Nepal is a developing country where there is the need for various positive changes in the society. Media can contribute to it, but I have found that Nepal’s mainstream media focuses primarily on political issues. They are not contributing much to encourage positive change and development. Women, children and deprived communities’ interests are ignored. I had always questioned in my mind why the media was not focusing on the issues of deprived groups, why it is not focused to contribute for positive change.
In 2007, when I was thinking about it, one friend of mine spoke of GPI. He said the group was going to start in Nepal with the objective of raising such issues. He said it was going to appoint a few lady citizen journalists in Nepal. I applied for it and was selected after a written test and interview. I have been involved with GPI since 2007.
I enjoy being a reporter for GPI because I have the feeling that I am contributing to change. As a GPI reporter, I am able to discuss with responsible authorities and stakeholders about issues facing people.
