I feel news is the best and only way to stay informed about the world we live in. I have been an ardent follower of world news not only to stay informed, but also to learn from others' experiences. During my sabbatical after spending more than 11 years in information technology, I discovered my hidden interest to write. While exploring various news websites, I came across GPI’s website. The format of the news published on GPI was different from any other channel or media group. Then I realized that the local women are given the opportunity to present to the world the news as it happens in their local communities. I thought it was a fantastic idea.
I decided to explore my interest in writing by trying out journalism. And thus, I became a GPI reporter in July 2011. I feel that there is great responsibility in this role, as we have the ability to speak despite not having an official journalism education background. The senior members of GPI have entrusted us with a big responsibility to share with the world the actual events, grievances, joys and revolution we see around us. I am not influenced to write anything resulting from external pressure.
GPI has given me a different dimension to my outlook and the way I act in the real world. Rather than being just a journalist, I see myself as a storyteller sharing real stories. I am pursuing journalism with an ardent burning desire in my heart, hoping that my reports spread awareness across the globe. I hope that my reports change people's lives for good and that they inspire people to take action against any injustice around them, so that more and more people build a safe and peaceful world. I wish to contribute toward changing this world into a better place through my writing.
