Stella Paul is an environment and development journalist with 10 years of experience. Based in Hyderabad, India, Stella has a dual postgraduate degree in literature, media studies and environmental law. Stella became associated with Global Press Institute in early 2012 while attending an online journalism training program called Voices of our Future Correspondents, which is offered by World Pulse women’s media group in partnership with GPI.
Besides GPI and World Pulse, Stella also writes for several other leading media outlets, including Reuters, Alertnet, Panos London and Women’s News Network. She has won several awards for her journalism, including Climate Change Media Partnership fellowship, an award given to 10 of the world’s leading environmental journalists each year, and a Special Recognition Award from Ground Report, a U.S.-based, citizen-driven news organization. In 2011, she was also nominated for the Vatavaran Young Environment Journalists’ Award, India. Most recently, Stella has been selected by World Pulse for its annual Live Speaking Tour 2012 – an award given to three most impactful women journalists worldwide.
Besides reporting, Stella also trains youths from marginalized communities to use video and cellphone journalism. She has so far trained more than 50 people all across India. Stella is also passionate about youth affairs. She currently leads Young Leaders Think Tank – a group of young professionals creating a Youth Agenda for India that aims to increase youth engagement in political and social affairs. Stella loves to write and is motivated by the impact she makes through her work.
