I'm Valeria Barbosa, and I was born and raised in the slums of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I am 54 years old and have worked in a social institution for the past 20 years. I am responsible for socio-educational programs with Crusade Minor. I am a poet, writer and composer.
I have always enjoyed writing, but I did not know I had a knack for it. I went to WorldPulse in November 2011 with the desire to meet people, learn about them, and discover how to solve their problems. I learned, overcome challenges, and found that this was the way I really wanted to talk about what ails poor people. I joined GPI in April 2012.
I believe that the journalistic work that I have come to dedicate myself to is one that does not interest the mainstream media, but that gives voice to citizens in socially vulnerable and anxious to have their rights guaranteed.
